The Role
The Directorate of Honours and Awards (DH&A) is seeking highly motivated individuals to fill five exciting APS 5 vacancies across the Directorate:
- Service Awards Team Leader x 2;
- Business Support Officer;
- Policy Officer; and
- Historical Honours Officer.
Each role plays an important part in recognising the dedicated service and achievements of veteran and current serving members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and Australian Public Service (APS) employees.
Team Leader : This role supports a team to assess award applications. You will manage the team's daily operations, set work priorities and allocate tasks. You will deliver exceptional customer service and perform analysis of various records, interpret and apply legislation, manage complex assessments and provide sound guidance to the team and the Directorate. You will provide limited system administration support in relation to the Defence Honours and Awards application management system.
Business Support Officer : This role undertakes a broad range of complex and pivotal administrative tasks. You will provide finance and HR support to the Directorate, and exercise a high degree of discretion, judgement and professionalism. You will perform key Directorate tasks including medal stock management, procurement, contract administration, invoice validation and payment, budget tracking, forecasting, Reserve workforce administration and various HR functions.
Policy Officer : This role is responsible for researching and analysing documents to interpret and apply policy and legislation. You will use this information to make informed decisions when preparing correspondence relating to honours and awards matters. You will develop effective working relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, and contribute to new and existing honours and awards policies. You will undertake Secretariat duties for the Defence Honours and Awards Advisory Group, and provide administrative support to the Policy Team as required.
Historical Honours Officer : This role manages all administrative aspects of the Directorate's interactions with the Defence Honours and Awards Appeals Tribunal. You will draft executive and ministerial correspondence as well as briefs and reports. You will respond to inquiries, maintain registers, provide quarterly status updates, undertake research and provide ad hoc administrative support to other areas within the Honours and Recognition Team as required. The team produces high profile, time critical outputs that require extensive auditing and input/export from the Honours and Awards database.

The Directorate of Honours and Awards provides medallic recognition to current serving and former Australian Defence Force (ADF) members, and Australian Public Service (APS) Defence employees. Awards are issued from the Imperial and Australian honours and awards systems from World War One to the current day.
Additionally, the Directorate provides recognition to APS Defence employees to acknowledge their personal and professional achievements. These include the Public Service Medal, Defence Commendation Scheme and the Australia Day Achievement Award.
