Description of the job
We are looking to fill an ongoing position in the International Labour section and non-ongoing position in the Pay Equity and Participation section.
The International Labour section is responsible for managing Australia's representation to the International Labour Organization (ILO). It works across the department and government to negotiate, ratify and report on international labour standards, and promote fundamental labour standards in other bilateral and multilateral fora. Within this team, the Senior Policy Officer will report to an Assistant Director and contribute to policy and strategy development for Australia's engagement with the ILO to reflect Australia's interests domestically and internationally.
The Pay Equity and Participation section is responsible for developing and implementing policy relating to pay equity and workplace relations reforms supporting women's workforce participation. Within this team, the Senior Policy Officer will report to the Assistant Director and contribute to policy and strategy development relating to flexible work conditions, the gender pay gap, and other workplace relations issues relevant to progressing gender equality.
We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated APS6 officers to assist with leading the development of these meaningful reforms and supporting their delivery, and engaging with the ILO. A merit pool will be formed to fill any other vacancies across the Branch as they occur.
The key duties of the position include
Responsibilities of the APS Level 6 in the International Labour section may include:
- supporting policy projects as part of Australia's membership of the ILO which may include ratification of priority conventions and protocols and reporting against our obligations
- preparing advice such as talking points, departmental and ministerial briefing, submissions, cables for senior executives and ministers
- engaging with and consulting internal and external stakeholders to meet our policy and strategic objectives
- arranging visits, meetings and events, including travel, communications, stakeholder outreach and other tasks as required.
Responsibilities of the APS Level 6 in the Pay Equity and Participation section may include:
- preparing advice such as talking points, departmental and ministerial briefing, submissions, cables for senior executives and ministers
- engaging with and consulting internal and external stakeholders to meet our policy and strategic objectives
- policy research and using strategic judgement to help form departmental positions
- supporting Cabinet, Parliamentary, and legislative development processes.
