Description of the job
The VET System Policy Strategy and Budget Branch is seeking multiple Assistant Directors to support a range of Vocational Education and Training (VET) system policy and program initiatives including policy projects, qualification reform, stakeholder engagement, and program management. The following teams have available positions:
- The Tertiary Policy team is seeking an Assistant Director who has policy development experience to support the development and delivery of the Government's tertiary education agenda. Key team priorities include delivering initiatives to support a more joined-up tertiary education system including through the Government's Economic Reform agenda and bringing a strong VET perspective to the Australian Tertiary Education Commission (ATEC) and associated higher education reforms.
- The VET System Policy team is seeking Assistant Director/s to support national skills and training strategic policy priorities. We are seeking candidates with experience in policy development, data analysis, and/or stakeholder engagement, who wish to join a high performing team to support a range of VET system policy initiatives focused on improving Australia's VET system and delivering on key priorities for the Skills and Workforce Ministerial Council.
- The VET Policy Pathways team is seeking an Assistant Director who has interest and experience in policy development and stakeholder engagement to support government decision-making, through high quality advice informed by evidence-based research data analysis and high-quality report writing. The team focuses on cross-cutting and system level VET and tertiary policy issues, to address the Governments agenda to improve skills and training pathways.
DEWR's National Office is in Canberra, but the Policy, Pathways and Inclusion Division also has offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Hobart. Applications for any of these locations will be considered for the role.
The key duties of the position include
Responsibilities of an Assistant Director may include:
- Providing high level strategic policy advice to the team Director and other Executive of the Skills Group to shape future strategic priorities for the Government and Department.
- Engaging with internal and external stakeholders and building productive relationships that bring broad perspectives to improve the development of policy advice.
- Leading and developing a small sub-team to develop excellent policy advice and proposals related to Australia's VET system.
